The Campus List site makes money through online advertising using CPM (cost per 1000 impression) pricing model. Within this model, companies pay the site per impression (each page) in which their ad comes up. The national average for targeted CPM pricing is around $11-$15 dollars. That means every 1000 impressions costs the advertising company $11-$15 dollars to put their ad on a site. So let's do the math. If every unique visitor, on average, loaded 10 impressions per visit, it would take 100 unique visitors per day to generate $11-$15 daily per ad viewed. On a larger scale, if the site generated 1000 unique visitors daily and each visitor loaded 10 impressions per visit, the site would generate $110-$150 every day per ad viewed! That is a lot of money in your pocket and ours.
